The Anambra State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening public trust and improving police-community relations through sustained engagement with religious leaders, traditional rulers and other stakeholders in the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, gave the assurance on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, when he received the Spiritual Director of the Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention and Deliverance Ministry, Odùmẹjẹ, during a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters in Awka.
The police commissioner said effective policing required public cooperation, mutual trust and a strong partnership between security agencies and the communities they serve.
He noted that religious leaders wield considerable influence in society and could play important roles in promoting peaceful coexistence, resolving conflicts, encouraging responsible behaviour and supporting efforts to safeguard lives and property.
According to him, sustained dialogue between the police and religious institutions would help address security concerns, improve information sharing and strengthen public confidence in law enforcement.
CP Nnanna stressed that the Command remained committed to maintaining open channels of communication with religious organisations, traditional institutions, community leaders and other stakeholders to collectively address security challenges confronting the state.
He said the police would continue to pursue a people-oriented approach to policing, anchored on professionalism, accountability, respect for the rule of law and constructive engagement with members of the public.
The commissioner also urged residents to support security agencies by providing timely, credible and useful information that could assist in preventing crime, identifying potential security threats and responding promptly to emerging situations.
He explained that policing went beyond arresting suspects and enforcing the law, adding that dialogue, collaboration and proactive engagement with the public were equally important in maintaining peace and security.
The police chief maintained that involving community stakeholders in security initiatives would help the Command better understand the concerns of residents and develop effective responses to emerging challenges.
He further emphasised that public cooperation remained indispensable to successful crime prevention, noting that security agencies could perform more effectively when members of the public were willing to share relevant information and work with them to protect their communities.
The visit by Odùmẹjẹ featured prayers and discussions aimed at strengthening relations between the police and the religious community.
The engagement, according to the Command, formed part of its broader efforts to build stronger partnerships with critical stakeholders in the collective pursuit of peace, security and harmonious coexistence across Anambra State.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Awka.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustaining engagements that promote public confidence, encourage cooperation and support the maintenance of law and order throughout the state.
